Why are the states with the lowest wage rates - AR, ND, ID, MS, MT and SD - all RED states?

Average cost of living is lower in all of those states than the national average. Tax rates in those states are lower than the national average. There are smaller populations there than the national average, meaning less competition for employers to compete with in terms of wages.
