For Cay L’Esperance, a Francophone studies graduate student, the Fête Nationale has more spirit and enthusiasm than Canada Day celebrations in Québec.“Some people are separatists and refuse to celebrate Canada Day,” she said. “Both celebrations are a week apart and this one comes first, so some people may be too tired to celebrate Canada Day,” adding how the annual French celebration sometimes extends to five days of ongoing festivities.
